Jessica Detho

Associate

Jessica is an Associate in the Litigation Department. She specialises in commercial litigation and arbitration, advising local and international clients in banking and financial disputes, employment and labour law, and land disputes.

She is part of a team that successfully represented homeowners in a dispute seeking specific performance against the developers of the estate and a commercial bank, which also sought to exercise its statutory power of sale over the land in which the homes are situated, in a bid to recover a debt in excess of KES 1.5 billion from the developers.

Jessica holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Commercial Law from Cardiff University (Wales – United Kingdom), a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Strathmore University (Kenya), and a post-graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (Kenya). She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Section 1).

EXPERIENCE

  • Part of the team representing Central Bank of Kenya in a Petition which seeks to stop the imposition of charges by Safaricom PLC and commercial banks on mobile money transactions.
  • Part of the team that advised a consortium of commercial banks on how to enforce securities held against a chargee under the Land Act (Cap 6 of 2012, Laws of Kenya) in a bid to recover in excess of KES 5 billion.
  • Part of the team that successfully represented homeowners in a dispute seeking specific performance against the developers of the estate and a commercial bank which also sought to exercise its statutory power of sale over the land in which the homes are situated in a bid to recover a debt in excess of KES 1.5 billion from the developers.
  • Part of the team representing a developer in arbitration with respect to the sale of a residential unit whereof the developer seeks to recover accrued interest on the delayed payment of the purchase price.
  • Part of the team that advised a client in a potential property insurance claim worth approximately KES 88 million following damage to the property.
