Thula has 24 years experience in competition, government business and regulation. He worked as a competition law enforcer and regulator for 18 years rising to the peak of CEO at the Zambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (2007-2011) and founding CEO of the Competition Authority of Botswana (2011-2016). He has worked as a consultant on competition law and policy for COMESA, EU, SADC, UN, World Bank projects and profiled as a Senior Consultant under UNCTAD. He served as Technical Advisor to the Eswatini Competition Commission 2019/20. He is qualified to practice law in Bostwana and Zambia.
Thula has assisted in capacity building of competition authorities in COMESA, EAC, ECOWAS and SADC and spot-on with client advisory on cartel, mergers and acquisitions and abuse of market power.
Thula is a well exposed thought leader in competition law development in Africa and has influenced competition law and policy review in several countries, including Botswana, Eswatini, Ghana, Mauritius, Tanzania and Zambia. He has published several papers in journals and compilation books on competition law. His speaking engagements at national and international fora are numerous. Thula is a member of the Institute of Directors and associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
